About the Forest Alliance of Armenia

The Forest Alliance of Armenia was founded by the joint initiative of the Armenian Tree Project Charitable Foundation,  My Forest Armenia NGO, the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) and Shen Charitable NGO.

Recognizing the need for a coordinated and collaborative approach to forest conservation and restoration, these organizations came together to unite their efforts in protecting Armenia’s forest ecosystems, restoring degraded forest landscapes, and expanding the country’s forest cover.

The Alliance carries out awareness-raising and policy development activities in collaboration with government institutions, stakeholders and the wider public to support the long-term conservation and sustainable development of Armenia’s forests.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book.

It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

From October 19 to 30, 2026, the Republic of Armenia will host the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity

About COP17
From October 19 to 30, 2026, the Republic of Armenia will host the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD COP17), bringing together representatives from national governments, international organizations, the scientific community, civil society, indigenous peoples, youth, and the private sector in Yerevan.

COP17 will be held within the framework of the Convention on Biological Diversity and will also incorporate the 12th meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (CP-MOP-12) and the 6th meeting of the Parties to the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (NP-MOP-6). The conference will take place at a critical juncture in the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF). For the first time since the Framework’s adoption in 2022, countries will collectively assess progress toward its 23 targets—focusing on actual outcomes rather than mere commitments—and evaluate which of the agreed-upon measures have been put into practice.

Hosting COP17 offers Armenia a historic opportunity to evaluate collective progress, strengthen cooperation, and accelerate concrete actions aimed at achieving global biodiversity goals by 2030.

By hosting COP17, Armenia positions itself at the heart of global discussions on biodiversity. Occupying only 6.7% of the Caucasus region, Armenia encompasses approximately 60% of the region’s biodiversity, distinguished by diverse ecosystems and thousands of species of flora and fauna.

As the host country, Armenia will welcome representatives of the international community to Yerevan, providing a unified platform for effective dialogue, cooperation, and joint action, while linking biodiversity priorities to the nation’s rich natural heritage.

The symbol for COP17 in Armenia is the *Polyommatus eriwanensis* butterfly (the Yerevan Blue), an endemic species to Armenia. Found nowhere else in the world and living side-by-side with people in Yerevan, this butterfly serves as a reminder that biodiversity is, first and foremost, local—and only then, global. The 23 colors in the COP17 identity symbolize the 23 targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, linking Armenia’s natural heritage to the international strategy for halting biodiversity loss and taking collective action.

From Ambition to Action
COP17 in Armenia represents a critical milestone in international efforts toward biodiversity conservation. The strategy for these actions is defined by the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework; within the context of COP17 in Armenia, this strategy translates into tangible outcomes, with goals evaluated against the work already accomplished, while the international community discusses further steps to accelerate progress toward 2030. In parallel with the official negotiations, COP17 will bring together representatives from government bodies, civil society, the scientific community, youth, the business sector, and other stakeholders to exchange knowledge, present solutions, and forge strong partnerships—thereby helping to translate biodiversity conservation goals into tangible, measurable outcomes for people.
